Radiofrequency and Ultrasound Therapy
When the skin starts to lose its elasticity and sag or droop - there is now a solution other than surgery! Modern radiofrequency and high-intensity focused ultrasound therapy are non-invasive methods to turn back the clock of skin aging a bit. After repeated treatments with Radiage®, the skin becomes firmer and smoother, while Ultherapy® makes possible non-operative skin tightening and a resultant more youthful appearance.
How does Radiage® therapy work?
The Radiage® method employs a new monopolar radiofrequency system to treat early skin loss of elasticity and fine lines. The radio waves are directed by the hand piece into the deeper layers of the skin where they heat the tissue leading to both shrinkage and synthesis of collagen. The skin surface is protected from the heat by a cooling gel. Anesthesia is not needed. Except for slight skin redness after the treatment, there are no other side effects and one can immediately resume all activities. Best results are obtained with a cycle of 3-4 treatments at 4 week intervals. The cycle can be repeated later. There is no need to avoid ultraviolet light or practice special sun protection.
How does Ultherapy® work?
Ultherapy® is a new, non-invasive way to tighten and improve the structure of the skin and connective tissue. High-intensity focused ultrasound waves are transmitted by the handpiece of the Ulthera® device through the skin into the underlying connective tissue. There they stimulate the body's own regenerative processes and initiate synthesis of new collagen. The different tissue levels are first visualized with diagnostic ultrasound, just like in routine sonography, and then the therapeutic ultrasound can be precisely directed. Only one treatment session is needed. It can be repeated at a later date. No anesthesia is required. One can resume full activities immediately after the procedure. There is no need to avoid ultraviolet light or practice special sun protection.
The high-intensity focused ultrasound or the radiofrequency waves are highly energetic producing immediate shrinkage of collagen followed by long-term synthesis of new collagen.
Radiage® therapy markedly improves the skin structure and smoothens fine wrinkles. The technique is especially effective on the neck, lower lid and upper lip.
Ultherapy® produces an immediate effect improving skin tension and contours, as well as a late effect over weeks and months as the skin structure and elasticity continue to improve as a result of collagen synthesis. It is especially effective to produce distinctive contouring of the jaw line, ameliorate prominent nasolabial folds and slightly elevate the eyebrows. The loose folded skin under the chin becomes tighter and smoother. In the end, the body's own production of new collagen is responsible for the success of the procedure.
What combinations are reasonable?
Injection of fillers to restore volume is the best way to correct sunken areas and at the same time to indirectly tighten the skin by expanding the tissue beneath it. One calls this a volume lifting! Sunken cheeks or deep nasolabial folds can additionally be corrected by injecting fillers or autologous fat after Ultherapy® in the same sitting.
What else can one do?
A healthy life style also has a positive influence on the skin. Too little sleep, lots of stress, and too much sun exposure, as well as alcohol and nicotine, all accelerate skin aging and should be avoided as much as possible. In addition good skin care is absolutely essential.
In a personalized consultation, I will be happy to discuss with you which high-intensity focused ultrasound or radiofrequency techniques are most appropriate for you.
